Concussion in the pediatric patient.
نویسنده
چکیده
MEDICAL HISTORY The patient has no significant medical or surgical history. She is a sophomore in high school and receives grades of As and Bs. She plays varsity and club volleyball and works part time at a restaurant. She has no allergies, takes nomedications, and her immunizations are up to date. As a prerequisite to playing a high school sport, she underwent Immediate PostConcussion Assessment and Cognitive Testing (ImPACT) last year. ImPACT is a computerized neurocognitive test. It is first conducted before participation in sports to determine the athlete s baseline brain function. When it is administered after head trauma is sustained, ImPACT can identify changes in mental capacity, thus determining the extent of concussion damage and tracking recovery (ImPACT Applications Incorporated, 2012).
